What is Hidden Thread?

Puzzles hidden in plain sight.

Hidden Thread is an outdoor puzzle game for teams. You walk a real place, crack clues hidden in what's around you and race the clock to find every piece.

More about Hidden Thread

If you've done one of these, you're halfway there.

  • A bit of an

    Escape room

The puzzles, the clock and the team shouting answers at each other. Minus the room.

  • A bit of a

    Treasure hunt

Out and about, hunting for things. Except every clue has a trick to it, so there's no list to tick off.

  • A bit of a

    Walking tour

You'll see the place properly, up close. Only nobody tells you what you're looking at. You work it out.

How it plays

Heads up, not heads down.

  1. Grab your team

Meet at the start. One link puts the game on everyone's phone.

  2. Look closer

Each clue is a puzzle. The answer is out there on a sign, a statue or a wall, never online.

  3. Collect the pieces

Every answer is a piece, and a note sends you on to the next. Stuck? A Nudge helps, for a little time.

  4. Beat the clock

Find the last piece and see your time. Then argue about whose idea it was.

On your phones

The whole game fits in your pocket.

No app, no kit, no one standing over you with a clipboard. One link and every phone in the team is in.

  1. Crack the clue

Read the clue together and work out what it's really asking. The answer is somewhere you can stand and look.

  2. Follow the note

Get it right and a short rhyming note sends you on to the next spot.

  3. Collect the piece

Every answer is a piece. Find them all before the clock runs down.

The clues

Every clue has a trick to it.

No general knowledge, no searching online. The answer is always somewhere you can stand and look.

  • Read it

Names, dates and words on signs, plaques and doors. Usually not the obvious bit.

  • Count it

Steps, posts, panes, birds on a roof. Count twice; someone always disagrees.

  • Spot it

Something's different, missing or out of place. You'll walk past it once.

  • Play with it

Hidden words, swapped letters and small codes, worked out with what's around you.

Who it's for

Bring whoever you like.

  • Friends

A Saturday that isn't brunch again. Split the clues, share the glory, argue about the credit.

  • Families

Younger eyes spot things grown-ups walk straight past. Go at your own pace and stop for ice cream.

  • Work teams

Better than another meeting. Several teams on the same trail, results sealed until everyone's back.

  • Visitors and locals

See a town properly, on foot. Locals tend to find out how little they'd noticed.

Two ways to play

Play your way.

  • One team · Up to 5 players

    You against the clock.

Book one team, meet at the start and go when you're ready. See your time at the end, then try to beat it.

Playing as a group

Built for outdoors

Real streets. Real weather. No drama.

  • Stuck on a clue?

Take a Nudge. It gives you a push and adds a little time to your clock.

  • Can't find the spot?

There's a Nudge for directions too, so nobody walks in circles.

  • Phone gave up?

Join from another phone with the team link. The game carries on where you left off.

  • Lost a teammate?

Everyone has the game on their own phone, so a wanderer can still follow along and catch up.

  • Weather turned?

We play in most weather. If it turns properly wild, play another day instead. Booked a set day for a group? We'll move you.

  • Need a step-free route?

Ask us before you book and we'll tell you what to expect.
